Health workers group in Sekondi on strike

Sekondi, June 08, GNA - About 500 members of health workers group at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital at Sekondi on Thursday decided to embark on a strike action.

They said the action was to draw attention of the government to disparities in their salaries.

At an emergency meeting with Mr Asare Bediako, Head of Administration of the hospital, they said they would not resume work until the disparities were corrected.

However, they agreed to take care of patients on admission and handle emergency and accident cases.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Bediako said mortuary attendants, catering staff and security workers agreed to come to work following an appeal made to them.

Health service delivery at the hospital, which is the leading health facility in the Western Region, has been severely disrupted as the result of the strike.

The group include members of the Association of Health Services Administrators Ghana, Government and Hospital Pharmacists Association, Health Accounting Staff Association of Ghana and Health Services Workers Union of Ghana.

Others are the Ghana Registered Nurses Association (GRNA) Ghana Federation of Allied Health Professions, Ghana Medical Assistants Association and Ghana Association of Nurses Anaesthetists.
