Heartless father sentenced to 15 years

A Kumasi Circuit Court has sentenced one Clement Obeng to 15 years imprisonment for severely beating his three-year old son.

The little boy was left with a badly swollen face and sores all over the body.

Obeng had pleaded not guilty to the charge of causing harm.

Police Chief Inspector Comfort Baffour-Kyei told the court presided over by Justice Emmanuel Amo-Yartey, that the complainant is the mother of the victim and lives at Obuasi Mile-Nine.

The lady and the convict used to be lovers but the relationship, which produced the boy, is now strained.

Obeng has refused to provide for the needs of the boy, leaving the responsibility of caring for him to the mother.

Police Chief Inspector Baffour-Kyei said, the woman recently lost her job and decided to send the boy to his biological father (Obeng) at Atimatim in the Afigya-Kwabre District.

On September 23, the boy’s mother called to find out from Obeng how their son was doing and was told he was sick.

She became disturbed and traveled to Atimatim to check on his health. Shockingly, she saw him, carrying sores all over the body and a swollen face.

The little boy narrated to her, the brutal spanking by the father.

She went straight to the police station to make a formal report and Obeng was arrested.
