Heavily armed BNI officials chase Sylvester Mensah

Sylvester Mensah Sylvester Mensah

Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority ( NHIA), Sylvester Mensah, appears to be on the radar of the Bureau of National Investigations as armed officials from the intelligence agency were dispatched to his house to arrest him on Thursday.

Fortunately for the former NHIA boss, the BNI officials who were armed to the teeth stormed his residence in his absence.

Despite arriving in his absence, the seven officers summoned the chief security for Mr. Mensah, who was around and hotly grilled him about the whereabouts of his boss before whisking him away.

The BNI oversees matters of the counterintelligence and security of Ghana both internal security and external security. The BNI has investigative jurisdiction to arrest or detain and interrogate over a wide range of criminal offenses.

Among the duties of the Bureau of National Investigations are dealing with organized crime and financial crime, and providing intelligence to counter threats to Ghana's national security.

It is yet to be established why Mr. Mensah, who was relieved of his post as CEO of the NHIA just some months ago, is being chased by armed men.
