Heavy rains kill student at West Gonja

A 23-year-old deaf and dumb final year student of the Wa Deaf Vocational Institute and also a seamstress apprentice at Damongo, Miss Mohammed Rahinatu met her untimely death last Friday when a wall fell on her at Nabori near Damongo, capital of the Savannah Region, killing her instantly.

The very heavy downpour that killed Rahinatu at Nabori in the West Gonja Municipality of Savannah Region also killed two teenage boys at Bawena in the North Gonja District of the Savannah Region through a thunder strike.

With regards the situation at Nabori, Bole based Nkilgi FM’s sources say Miss Rahinatu closed from the tailoring shop and upon reaching home, stopped at the Nabori Primary School where a football match was ongoing. A heavy downpour, however, disrupted the football match which saw everyone running home including Rahinatu who on her way home, unfortunately, had the wall of an abandoned structure that formerly housed a grinding mill collapsed on her.

The body of the late Rahinatu has since been buried in accordance with the Muslim practices.

At Bawwna the two teenage boys at died through a thunder strike.

The two boys who were in the rain according to information available to Bole based Nkilgi FM were struck to death in the last Friday evening rainstorm that also brought down many trees with many houses losing their roofs as a result of the storm that accompanied the rains.
