Suspect Helen Huang has yet to report to the Criminal Investigative Department (CID) of the Northern Regional Police Command of the Ghana Police Service after her police enquiry bail on Tuesday. She was granted the bail after her arrest following suspected illegal logging of rosewood.
The Northern Regional Crime Officer, Superintendent Otuo Acheampong, revealed that the suspect is yet to report as at 9:47am Thursday May 9. “She says she’s still getting her papers,” he said. “She just said she’s sure she will come today. She wouldn’t tell me when to expect her even when I tried to ask what time we should expect her,” he revealed.
Helen Huang was arrested on Tuesday at the Vitting Barrier in Tamale while she was transporting two 20-footer trucks loaded with four containers of rosewood to Tema. She was granted bail after she had documented her statement to the police. Her bail condition was to report to the CID office each day to assist the police in investigations.
But after almost 48 hours, Helen Huang has yet to report as required of her. She has told the police she will travel to the national capital, Accra, to retrieve documents that permit her access forest reserves for logging activities.
