Apam, July 6, GNA - The District Chief Executive for the Gomoa, Ms Joyce Aidoo has appealed to donor agencies, organisations and philanthropists to help the District Assembly to improve the standard of living of the people.
Ms Aidoo stated the high level of poverty was affecting the development of the District since it could not raise enough internal generated revenue.
She said about 77 per cent of the people lived below the poverty line.
The DCE made the appeal when Mr Joe Donkoh, a Business Executive donated 250 bags of cement worth about 40 million cedis to some educational institutions in the district for their projects. They schools were Apam Secondary School, Gomoa Secondary/Technical School at Dawurampong, Mozano Secondary School, Gomoa Adaa Vocational Institute, Apaaba, Integrated Community Centre for Employable Skills, Gomoa Mprumem, Potsin T I Ahmadiyya Secondary School and Gomoa Adaa-Ngyiresi Junior Secondary School.
Mr Donkoh who is a citizen of the area said his donation was to help raise the standard of education and to alleviate poverty in the area. He appealed to old students of the institutions and Gomoa citizens to go to the aid of the schools.
Mr Donkoh also pledged 50 bags of cement to the chiefs for their palace projects.
