Help democracy to grow in Ghana

Wamfie (B/A), March 8, GNA- A prominent member of the New Patriotic Party in Dormaa East constituency of Brong Ahafo has called on all Ghanaians to support democracy to thrive in the country.

Squadron Leader Ben Anane Asamoah (rtd), Supplies Superintendent of Iduapriem Gold Mine of Ashanti Goldfields Company Limited, stressed that "we cannot rule by the gun" and urged that all should lend support for the success of the country's democratic dispensation.

He was speaking in an interview with Ghana News Agency at a fund-raising dinner dance organized by the Dormaa East constituency branch of the NPP at Wamfie in aid of the party's organisation. He said his support for the NPP was a matter of course and was determined to enter Parliament to be able to assist the party in the area with his contributions as an MP.

Sqn Ldr Asamoah, urged the youth to desist from violent acts during both the electioneering campaign and the elections. He called on all eligible persons to register when the voters' register is re-opened next week to be able to vote in the December elections and subsequent ones.

Any one who will refuse to be part of the exercise will be inflicting a great harm to himself as a true citizen of the land. Sqn Leader Asamoah, who donated two million cedis at the ceremony, aside of his past contributions, expressed the hope that members and supporters of the party would work hard for victory.

Mr. Yaw Peprah, chairman of the constituency branch of the party noted that this year's elections would be crucial and important, as it would be disastrous if the party lost. 08 March 04
