Awutu-Bawjiase (C/R), Jan. 9, GNA - The District Chief Executive for Awutu-Effutu-Senya, Mr. Solomon Kwarshie Abbam-Quaye, has made a strong appeal to church and other religious leaders in the district to help educate the people against the dangers posed by rumour-mongering to nation building. Mr. Abbam-Quaye made the call during visits to some orthodox and Pentecostal churches at Awutu-Bawjiase on Sunday to explain issues to leaders and followers of those churches.
Mr Abbam-Quaye advised people in the area to disabuse their minds from the rumours that he wants to contest for the Awutu-Senya parliamentary seat in the next general election that was why he had put up a sustained and committed performance since he assumed duty as DCE for the area. The DCE also described as baseless and destructive, rumours that he had been the main stumbling block preventing the Ghana Telecom, BUZZ and AREEBA from extending their services to people at Bawjiase and surrounding communities.
Mr Abbam-Quaye said that his ambition was to bring socio-economic development to communities under his administration and not to do things that would impede their social, economic and spiritual forward march. He said the three communication companies in respect of whom he had been personally accused wrongfully had already constructed their giant antennal at Bawjiase without any recourse to his office or the general assembly. "I therefore find it extremely strange that certain individuals and interested groups in Bawjiase town were blaming the inability of GT, BUSS and AREEBA cell-phone users in and around the town on him,": the DCE asked.
Mr Abbam-Quaye advised the people particularly the false news peddlers in Bawjiase and communities around them to impress upon the three companies to honour their tax obligations to the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly and stop pointing accusing figure at innocent individuals. He expressed the hope that the active involvement of church leaders in the crusade against rumour mongering would go a long way to instil a sense of discipline in the people. He also charged all Christians in the district to educate the bad nuts amongst them on the effects of false news peddling. 09 Jan. 06
