Help fight and make corruption unattractive - PNC

The Eastern Regional branch of the People’s National Convention (PNC), has appealed to Ghanaians to help fight and make corruption unattractive.

This is contained in a statement issued in Koforidua on Wednesday and signed by Ustaz Yakubu Salifu, Eastern Regional Secretary of the PNC, and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA).

The statement expressed disappointment in President John Mahama’s speech to the United Kingdom (UK) media during his recent visit to Britain.

“We here openly admitted that Ghana’s weak systems are not to blame for the rising spate of corruption in the country”, the statement noted.

It said the President was rather to be blamed as a weak president and not the system.

The statement indicated that Ghanaians voted for President Mahama based on the assumption that he could make the system work because of his youthfulness.

“But rather under his own administration, a whole lot of cases of corruption scandals and alleged misappropriation of public funds have been leveled against key government officials and individuals”, it said.

It said, yet nothing positive had been done about it even from the Presidency, apart from the usual National Democratic Congress (NDC) setting of propaganda “Committee of Enquiry”.

The statement noted that under the President’s administration, came the Gyeeda rot, and revelations of corruption at the World Cup in Brazil were all reported cases of corruption.

It noted that in the present poor state of Health service and rapid falling standards of education, an individual could misappropriate more than 148,500 dollars of public funds for accommodation.

The statement noted that, two months after this revelation, the President is telling the World that weak system is accounting for corruption, and questioned whose duty is it to correct the system.

“The PNC is hereby promising Ghanaians a very dynamic and hardworking leadership come 2016, which would not only be talking grammar at the Presidency without monitoring, and expecting the system to work”, the statement said.

It said the PNC will establish a dignified society with a perfect democratic and flamboyant economy when it takes over the administration of the country after the 2016 general elections.
