Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has called on stakeholders to partner the government in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

He noted that the government cannot implement the goals alone.

The traditional leader said the SDGs seek to tackle problems that are affecting people.

He said even though he has heard some critics say the SGDs are overambitious, the citizens of Ghana and elsewhere deserve nothing less than what the goals will achieve.

The Asantehene said the nation cannot achieve its potential while many of its people live in poverty without adequate food, suffer from diseases and have no access to quality education.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II commended the government for integrating the SDGs into the national policy framework but urged that the implementation is sped up.

He, therefore, called on all stakeholders including the private sector, civil society organisations, among others, to come on board to help the government implement the SDGs.

The Asantehene made these remarks at a royal dialogue on the SDGs in honour of the late former Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), Busumuru Kofi Annan at the Manhyia Palace.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II commended Mr Annan for his contributions toward the implementation of the SDGs.
