Madam Akua Sena Dansua, Minister of Tourism, has urged corporate entities to support the efforts of government at promoting the country as an attractive tourist destination.
She said it was necessary for such companies to sponsor laudable initiatives by individuals in the society, which are geared towards marketing the country’s tourism products to enhance growth.
Madam Dansua said this at the launch of a German and Spanish edition of Ghana Tourism Guide in Accra on Wednesday.
The Minister said tourism helped to enhance other sectors of the economic such as agriculture, finance, manufacturing, transportation and general services which positively affects the lives of everyone.
She said the Ministry in its efforts to sustain the sector had introduced several initiatives to position Ghana as the main reference point for tourists.
Madam Dansua said one of such initiatives was a project dubbed: “Eye on Ghana” which would use CNN to market the country’s numerous tourism and investment potentials with its high democratic credentials to the world.
“This I believe will lead to an increase in tourism arrival, tourism revenue and general economic development of the country,” she said.
Madam Dansua commended the author of the tourism guide saying, the guide had brought Ghana’s tourism closer to the German and Spanish speaking countries which would increase tourists’ visitation and revenue into the country.
Mr. Fritz Baffour, Minister of Information, said the country was not only endowed with natural resources but with immense hospitality environment which had played a major role in the growth of the tourism sector.
He urged the Ministry of Tourism to collaborate with the author to translate the publication into other languages to help educate the people about the country’s attractive tourism sites.
Mr. Baffour appealed to Ghanaians to improve upon their reading and learning habits to be more informed about the country so as to market it to other people.
Ms Rose Agodoa, Author of the Guide and Director of Rose Tourism Centre, said the book was to create awareness of Ghana’s tourism resources to benefit the people and the economy.**
