Henry Quartey goes after NDC Deputy General Secretary over election rigging claim

Henry Quartey, Minister of Interior

The Minister of Interior and Member of Parliament for Ayawaso Central, Henry Quartey, has warned the Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, according to a 3news.com report.

The warning comes after Gbande is reported to have accused the Minister of conspiring to rig the upcoming December elections.

Gbande alleged that Henry Quartey, in collaboration with the Deputy Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Director of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), have been holding secret meetings to manipulate the election results.

He claimed that these meetings were aimed at undermining the integrity of the electoral process.

In response, the Interior Minister has dismissed the accusations as "baseless" and "unfortunate," stating that they are intended to erode public trust in the government.

He expressed disappointment over the allegations, particularly coming from a senior member of a major political party like the NDC.

"This statement is highly regrettable, especially from someone holding a key position in the NDC, these wild accusations are not only misleading but also incite public unrest. We must demand a retraction."

Quartey warned that if the NDC Deputy General Secretary does not retract his statements, he would pursue legal action to prove that there is no truth to the allegations.

"If he refuses to retract, I will seek legal redress to clear any doubts that the Interior Minister, the National Intelligence Bureau, and the Deputy IGP are planning to rig the elections. This cannot go unchallenged.”

"If the people decide that it is time for us to step down, we will do so peacefully. However, as long as we remain in power, and the country's security apparatus is intact, we will not tolerate any misconduct. Anyone who attempts to disrupt the peace will face the full force of the law," he added.
