The news was reported on how the long serving Member of Parliament for Tamale Central constituency, Lawyer Inusah Fuseini had announced he will not seek for reelection and will leave the position when his term expires in 2020.

Hon Inusah Fuseini made the surprise announcement on Saturday June 30, 2018, at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium where he was invited to address party members on the need to embrace unity after the just ended constituency primaries.

“I am the second MP to have served Tamale Central Constituency for a long time, so I have decided; that I, Lawyer Inusah, shall not contest the position again when it is time for primaries for 2020 elections”, Lawyer Fuseini announced to the gathering in local dialect Dagbani.

The NDC youth on social media had accused him of playing “good cop, bad cop” since the NPP came to power and all his commentaries has been to please the ruling party.

He accused the NDC of crowd renting among others.

Last year, Inusah made the news headlines when an inactive espionage device was uncovered inside the office of Lands and Natural Resources Minister, one of the ministry he served during the eight year regime of his party.

He is currently facing an ongoing criminal investigation into government initiated allegations that he and some others took double salary as MPs and Ministers while at office contrary to sections of the Criminal and other Offences Acts 1960 as amended in 2012.

He has had irreconcilable differences with his party executives for a while with some pick up vehicle of his campaign being grounded by a group in 2016.

Back at home, Inusah Fuseini’s announcement will set off a scramble to determine a nominee to replace him in the sharply divided constituency.

Prior to the 2016 elections, the MP was already facing a dwindling political career. Already, he had completely fell off with the constituents for failing to fulfill earlier electoral promises of providing jobs and infrastructures.

In 2016, during the party constituency primaries, Inusah Fuseini faced probably the most grueling moment of his political life when a rich road engineer, Alhaji Ibrahim Seidu, contested him in the elections.

Hon. Fuseini later won but the party in the constituency has stayed roundly divided since that unprecedented internal contest, that gave birth to a popular political coded insinuation “Shei Ko Shey”, a Dagbani word, loosely translated to mean ‘He must stand down’, now used across in parts of Northern Ghana, even in domestic contests.

The MP also faced intense backlash after reports that he paid a popular musician close to a billion cedis to perform at his campaign launch. He later denied and subsequently initiated legal action against the media houses that carried the reports.

Since the elections which he won by 58.18%, Inusah Fuseini has stayed loosely disconnected to party activities in the constituency and settled on his parliamentary duties until this latest bombshell.
