The National Celebrations Planning Committee (NCPC) has announced the lineup of activities for Ghana's 68th Independence Anniversary celebration.
The festivities, scheduled to take place from February 28 to March 6, 2025, will feature historical commemorations, student competitions, and a grand ceremonial parade.
According to a statement released by the NCPC, the anniversary will commence with the commemoration of the 28th February Crossroad Shooting Incident on Friday, February 28, 2025.
This historic event honours the memory of the three ex-servicemen who were tragically shot during a protest in 1948.
On Sunday, March 2, 2025, the celebration will continue with the finals of a nationwide school quiz competition, followed by the finals of a national debate competition on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.
The statement also highlighted the President's School Children Awards Programme, scheduled for Wednesday, March 5, 2025.
This event aims to recognize outstanding students from across the country for their academic achievements and contributions to national development.
The celebration will culminate in a ceremonial parade at the forecourt of the Presidency on Thursday, March 6, 2025, marking Ghana's official Independence Day.
The NCPC has introduced a fresh approach to the 28th February Commemoration by rolling out educational and informative content across television, radio, and social media platforms ahead of the Wreath-Laying Ceremony.
"With this new approach, we hope to rekindle interest and participation among the youth and the general public in this significant national event while remembering and honouring our heroes," the statement read.
To achieve this, the committee will share historical content on the events leading up to the February 28, 1948, shooting of the three ex-servicemen.
Additionally, the Communications Subcommittee will host an X-Space conversation on "The Changing Face of Civil Protests in Ghana: Lessons from the Past and Present."
The media has also been encouraged to play an active role in promoting public engagement.
"Radio, television, online, and print media are encouraged to host discussions and publish articles to promote the anniversary theme and other activities, deepening public participation," the statement added.
The Wreath-Laying Ceremony will take place at Nationalism Park at 8:00 AM on February 28, 2025. The event will be broadcast live and streamed on multiple platforms.
The NCPC has called on media outlets, bloggers, and the public to actively participate by sharing information.
"We encourage the media, bloggers, and the public to actively engage by sharing information with their viewers, listeners, and readers," the statement concluded.
