The Director of Electoral Services at the Electoral Commission, Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, has addressed concerns regarding the upcoming December elections.

One of the concerns raised was about what the electoral body would do if the Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) or other churches refused to provide their facilities for use as polling centers.

In response to the question, Dr. Serebour Quaicoe stated that the electoral body can still create polling stations around vicinities closer to the premises of the SDA or other churches if such cases arise.

Dr Serebour Quaicoe made his submission during a guest appearance on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo show on July 31.

Explaining such a scenario using Peace FM premises, he said “If the polling centre is the Peace FM building, every place around it or area can be used as a polling station. We don’t even conduct elections inside church or school buildings but within the premises is where we create the polling stations”.

Dr. Serebour Quaicoe also clarified that the commission does not have the authority to extend voting hours to accommodate latecomers.

Individuals who arrive at polling centers after 5pm will not be permitted to vote.
