Accra, Oct. 17, GNA - There is going to be a structural change in the tourism sector soon to ensure efficiency in the industry, Mr Stephen Asamoah Boateng, Minister of Tourism and Diaspora Relations, announced on Wednesday.
He said people would be re-assigned to do other things in addition to their work, especially in government departments and agencies, adding that the Ministry would appoint a board of directors for the Ghana Tourist Board in due course.
Mr Asamoah Boateng made the announcement when he met with staff of the Ghana Tourist Board in the Greater Accra Region and those at the Head office to share his vision and also know their problems. The Ghana Tourist Board is the main implementing agency of the Ministry.
Mr Asamoah Boateng mentioned quality service delivery, increase in the number of hotel rooms and proper management of the country's coastlines as three main areas of his focus.
"I want to work with a hardworking team, so if you are not hardworking, I leave you behind," he said.
He said quality service delivery in the tourism sector was key to growth in the industry, hence a programme by the board to train operators in the industry as the country prepared for the Ghana 2008 football tournament.
Mr Asamoah Boateng said he was also planning to set up a Diaspora secretariat at the Ministry, which would streamline activities of investors, among other things.
The Minister urged the staff of GTB to feel free to comment and criticize anytime they have a problem so that together they could gradually address challenges facing the industry.
