A former Minister of Trade Dr. Ekow Spio-Garbrah believes former president John Mahama performed creditably and would be on the good side of history.
Although Mahama lost miserably in the 2016 elections as the first sitting president under the Fourth Republic to have been defeated in an election, Dr. Spio-Garbrah believes Mahama can still walk with his head held high.
“He did his best for Ghana and I’m sure history will judge him more favourably,” the former CEO of the Commonwealth Trade Organisation told Accra-based Radio XYZ Tuesday.
Dr. Spio-Garbrah, who was the boss of Mahama at the Ministry of Communication before coming to serve under his subordinate when he became president in 2012, extolled the leadership qualities of the fourth president of the Republic.
“Mahama had extraordinary leadership skills,” Dr. Spio-Garbrah who has been tipped for the flag bearer position of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for election 2020 remarked.
“He said Mahama is a very quiet and not particularly extravagant in his dealings. He really had his hands on top of every subject matter. He is a student of
history and used that to his strength and was very good at extempore.
“He was good at bringing people together,” Dr. Spio-Garbrah stated.
Mahama’s comeback is still in doubt as the NDC is yet to open nomination for the flag bearer race which is due in about two years’ time.
