Ho Polytechnic undergoing re-engineering – Rector

The Ho Polytechnic is undergoing institutional re-engineering and adaptive change to propel its academic stature into higher gear, Professor Emmanuel Kojo Sakyi, Rector of the Polytechnic said.

He said the re-engineering would polish its public image further and promote camaraderie on campus.

He was addressing a meeting with Deans of Faculty, Heads of Departments, sections and units, and the Media at which he presented a report and spelt out his vision for the institution after 100 days in office.

Professor Sakyi assumed duty as the fourth Rector of the Polytechnic on October 1, 2014 after Dr George Mawusi Afeti, Dr Kwasi Agbeko Dzisi and Dr Jakpasu Victor Kofi Afun.

Professor Sakyi said analysis of pieces of information available to him on assumption of duty and observation of the operations of the technical aspects of the Polytechnic necessitated a reengineering process.

He said whereas the technical reengineering which has already begun would be easy to effect “adaptive change” regarding dismantling and demystifying perceptions, prejudices, relationships and belief systems constitute a greater challenge.

Professor Sakyi said the “mental software needed to be exposed to anti-virus to be cleaned.”

He hinted that the reengineering process could see some major changes and shifts in positions, powers and exercise of authority.

“I don’t have the solutions,” he said, but assured that “I will create the environment for everybody to solve individual problems,” because the Polytechnic has the capacity to solve its internal problems.

Professor Sakyi said he has begun seeing some positive changes in approach and attitude to work.

“The Polytechnic is a public institution, which must serve the interest of all,” he said.

On conversion to Technical University, Professor Sakyi said the Polytechnic has met 50 percent of the conditions and was working on breaking new grounds in that direction.

He said the Polytechnic has initiated collaboration with L’institut National Polytechnique, Felix Houphouet-Boigny in Yamoussoukro in Cote d’Ivoire, Pulaski Technical College, USA and Vocational Institute of Technology (VIT) University of India.

It has also embarked on 13 major initiatives to catapult the Polytechnic to higher heights.
