Ho gets new SSS

Ho, Dec. 17, GNA - A new private Senior Secondary School has been established in Ho to mop up Junior Secondary School (JSS) graduates in and around the municipality who could not enroll in schools allotted them under the computerized selection system. Star Secondary School, located near OLA Secondary School in Ho, has also admitted a number of JSS students who had left school two or three years ago and were hanging around in their various towns and villages. Mr Philip Kitsi, acting Headmaster told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) last Monday when the school received 210 assorted textbooks from the Relief And Community Development Charity (RCDC) that number enrolled so far was 161 with 98 being girls. He said the books, which covered many disciplines including geography, mathematics, history and music cost 3.5 million cedis.

Mr Kitsi said the books were solicited, packed and shipped by an Irish donor to the RCDC, which is an NGO of the Evangelical Community Mission, a Ho based Church. He said the books would help the students, many of who were finding difficult to buy their own books. Asked if there was the need for another SSS in Ho, Mr Kitsi said the older and public schools took on more students from the cities than from the local area. He said Star Secondary School, which run courses in general and visual arts and business was drawing students mainly from the local and neighbouring towns including Hohoe, Juapong, Matse Taviefe and Adidome. Rev. Sylvanus Botsyoe, Executive Secretary of RCDC said it was the aim of his organization to help the needy pursue education at all levels.
