Homowo: Desist from acts that disturb Accra’s peace – AMA

Accra Metropolitan Assembly Accra Metropolitan Assembly

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has entreated persons involved in the spate of public disturbances and chieftaincy disputes in the Greater Accra Region to desist from the act.

Such disturbances according to the AMA which happens pre, during and post Homowo celebration period need to be nipped in the bud in order not to tarnish the image and culture of the Ga people.

The Assembly said the city of Accra had experienced some level of peace over the years but it appears the lack of respect for law and order is slowly creeping back as a norm. “The Assembly, therefore, wishes to call on all persons within the city to respect the Public Order Act 1994 (ACT 491),” it said in a statement.

The AMA said it will not allow any individual or group of persons to take the laws into their own hands and, thereby, disturb the peace and stability the city dwellers have enjoyed so far.

“The assembly wishes to reiterate its commitment to the Metropolitan Security Committee in maintaining law and order at all times and to ensure a peaceful city where we can all live in and love it especially during this year’s Homowo celebration and Chale Wote Festival,” the statement noted.
