The Nungua Traditional Council has secured an injunction from an Accra High Court on the celebration of the annual Kplejoo Festival.

King (Dr.) Odaifio Walentsi III obtained the injunction dated 6 July 2018 which bars the respondents; Stephen Akwetey Bortey, Nii Bortey Okplen, Nuumo Borkete Osualey (Oofu Wulomo) and Kwao Boye from going ahead with the Kplejoo festival.

The development was as a result of a misunderstanding between the Nungua Mantse and the priests (Wulomei).

The injunction, cited by ClassFMonline.com also stated that the order shall operate for a period of 10 days after which the applicant may come on notice.

Kplejoo is a fore-runner to the annual Homowo festival and during this celebration, the traditional priest and priestesses worship the gods of the land, cleanse the various stools and pray for bountiful food and fish.

During the festival, the gods are pacified with slaughtered sheep or cow and implored for protection against accidents and bad omen in the coming year.

Kplejoo is a song- and drum-based celebration. Special songs are sung by mostly the youth to inspire or critique individuals on their accomplishments during the festival.
