Hospitals need separate stores for drugs and chemicals

Kumasi, July 22, GNA- Mr Said Al-Hussein of the Human Resource Department of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has appealed to hospitals and health centres that keep drugs, chemicals and food in one storeroom to stop the practice, because it was dangerous to human health. Mr Al-Hussein made the appeal at the on-going training workshop for 16 Estate managers on Planned Preventive Maintenance of Health Service Buildings in Kumasi.

He said if the drugs and chemicals were kept in the same room there was the likelihood of the food getting contaminated.

Mr Andrew Oppong Dankwah, Head of Building Maintenance of the EMY, said the unit had developed a standard modular design for building hospital stores.

He said apart from the old hospitals and health centres the new health centres have stores mainly for all medical equipment.
