A Houseboy, John Osei-Acquah, was on Friday sentenced to 10 days imprisonment by an Accra circuit court for stealing Gh¢150,000.00 belonging to one Charles Yao-Mensah.
He was charged for stealing, and pleaded guilty to the charge, hence was sentenced accordingly.
His accomplice, Alhassan Suleiman, who was charged for having possession of the stolen item, an amount of GH¢50,000.00 belonging to Charles, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded into police custody.
He is to reappear on December 3.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Michael Jubiok, told the court that the complainant, Charles, was a businessman and resided at Labone, while John was a houseboy to the complainant and lived with him. Alhassan is a student and resides at Maamobi.
He said on September 19, one Michael, an employee of the complainant, brought an amount of GH¢150,000.00 and handed same to the complainant at home and he kept it in his wardrobe in his bedroom.
He told the court that on September 22, John was cleaning the bedroom when he chanced on the money, stole it and bolted.
Chief Inspector Jubiok said on September 23, the complainant reported the case to the police for investigation. John was arrested on September 30 at Elubo and brought to Accra for investigation.
He said an amount of GH¢29,700.00 was retrieved from John and another GH¢50,000.00 which he gave to Alhassan for safe-keeping.
The prosecution told the court that on October 3, Alhassan was arrested at Maamobi and, in his caution statement, stated that the said money was given to him by one Fiasal, now at large, to be given to John at Elubo, but unknowingly, John was in the custody of the police.
He said he gave an amount of GH¢35,000.00 to one Malik, his father, and alleged that armed robbers had stolen GH¢15,000.00 out of the money, but his father handed the said amount to the police.
Chief Inspector Jubiok told the court that efforts are underway to get Faisal arrested for prosecution, while an amount of GH¢64,700.00 has been realised and handed over to the complainant.
