The Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, could not wait to bask in retaining his position as the Majority Leader after the Supreme Court ruled in favour of his challenge against the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin's declaration of four seats in the House vacant.

Afenyo-Markin has been grappling with the media for refusing to refer to him as the Majority Leader because the Supreme Court had stayed the Speaker's declaration, which made him the Minority Leader.

After the Supreme Court overturned Bagbin's declaration on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, the Effutu legislator could not help but confront one of the journalists who had been refusing to refer to him as the Majority Leader.

He asked the journalist to address him by his proper title.

"... I'm just asking you, I want to know your position today. I just want us to have clarity for the purposes of education. What is your position now? What has the court said?" he quizzed.

The MP continued until the journalist admitted he is now the Majority Leader.

About the court's ruling:

The Supreme Court overruled Speaker Alban Bagbin's declaration of four seats in the House vacant, ruling that the decision was unconstitutional.

The Supreme Court's verdict follows a suit filed by Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin challenging Speaker Bagbin's declaration.

The court, led by Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo and comprising seven justices, ruled in favour of Afenyo-Markin, accepting all his arguments in a 5-2 majority decision.

Per the Supreme Court's ruling, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) reclaimed its position as the Majority in Parliament.
