Renowned sports journalist Collins Atta Poku has disclosed that staunch National Democratic Congress (NDC) member Appiah Stadium was dismissed as a staff of the National Sports Authority who worked at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

He explained that this happened after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) won the 2016 general elections and decided to remove individuals more affiliated with the NDC.

The Sompa FM journalist indicated that following Appiah’s dismissal, the person who replaced him at the Baba Yara Stadium was an office administrator and not a technical person.

Speaking on Sompa FM, Atta Poku noted that appointments by institutions after a change in government are purely political, which does not help the nation progress and function properly as they are supposed to.

“You think Appiah Stadium does not know what is happening in Ghana? Let’s be serious. They have made these appointments not on merit; it has always been political. Look at how Appiah was dismissed as a staff member [at Baba Yara Stadium] and a new person was brought in.

“Appiah was a technical person, but the person who came was an office administrator, and they made him regional director," he said in Twi.

He commented after some unknown persons stormed the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on January 9, 2024, in an attempt to force out the Ashanti Regional National Sports Authority (NSA) Director, Kwame Baah Mensah.

Reports indicated that the vigilantes intended to compel Kwame Baah to leave his office following the change of government.
