At 6 pm on December 9, 2024, 48 hours after the close of polls on December 7, 2024, the Electoral Commission of Ghana declared John Dramani Mahama as the president-elect of the Republic of Ghana.
The announcement, which was made by the EC Chairperson, Jean Mensah, at the EC Headquarters, saw Mahama win with 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55% of the votes.
The declaration, which was broadcast live on TV, shared a split screen with a live view of President Mahama’s residence.
The president-elect could be seen seated with his family, all clad in white as they closely followed the declaration.
Viewers could see Mahama as he and his wife, Lordina, reacted to the results of both his fellow contenders and his own.
When the final declaration was given and Mahama was declared president-elect, he could be seen all smiles as his family rushed to congratulate him with hugs and pats.
