DAILY GUIIDE has gathered that Ohene Boateng, the Sefwi Wiawso constituency chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who met his untimely death in a road accident on the Sefwi Asawinso-Wiawso road last Thursday afternoon, was among the NDC gurus who were to welcome Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, former first lady, to the Sefwi area.
Nana Konadu was in the Sefwi Wiawso area, one of the strongholds of the ruling NDC, as part of her three-day working visit to the Western Region, during which she re-launched the regional branch of the 31st December Women’s Movement at Elubo in the Jomoro district.
DSP Raymond Kofi Erzuah, Sefwi Wiawso District Police commander who confirmed the death of the NDC constituency chairman, also called ‘Silly Bomber’, told DAILY GUIDE that on Thursday at about 2:30 pm he had information that Mr. Boateng had had an accident while traveling from Asawinso to Sefwi Wiawso to welcome the former first lady to the Sefwi area.
He noted that the constituency NDC chairman sustained serious injuries in the accident and died later whilst he was being rushed to the hospital.
He said the deceased was driving his own saloon car while his driver was sitting beside him at the front passenger seat when the accident happened.
According to the district police commander, the driver, whose name was not immediately known, did not sustain any injury, adding that the body of the deceased had been deposited at the St John of God Hospital morgue for autopsy.
He stressed that the Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (MTTU) of the Police Service in Sefwi Wiawso had launched full-scale investigations into the case to ascertain the cause of the gory accident.
DSP Erzuah indicated that upon hearing the accident and the death of the Sefwi Wiawso NDC constituency chairman, the Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings had to suspend her activities for the day to visit the family of the deceased to commiserate with them.
