A company linked to the son of Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Prof Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, Jojo Frimpong Boateng called Symphony Limited, said to be involved in the Galamsey at a time his father pretended to be fighting the menace.

This disclosure was made by Kennedy Agyapong, New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Assin Central.

It has been alleged that Jojo Frimpong Boateng, through Ekow Ewusi, took custody of a number of seized excavators to use for his own mining activities at a time his father was said to be looking for the missing excavators.

“How can you seize people’s excavators for illegal mining and turn around to give it your son for his mining activities?” Kennedy Agyapong quizzed.

At the time he was doing this, Jojo’s father Prof Frimpong Boateng pretended he didn’t know the whereabout of the excavators to appear clean in the eyes of the public.

In a letter dated February 5, 2020, bearing his signature and addressed to the Director-General of the CID, Prof Frimpong-Boateng stated: “In October last year, one Mr Seth Mantey, a journalist working with Peace FM, was apprehended because of unlawful excavator sales. In the course of the investigations, Mr Mantey, confessed that he was contracted by Mr John Ofori-Atta, the then-National Security Coordinator for the Central Region, and Mr Ekow Ewusi, to use his bank account at the National Investment Bank for what, effectively, was money laundering.

“The proceeds from the excavator sales were lodged in Seth Mantey’s bank account, adding “The sums of money lodged were later cashed and given to Mr John Ofori-Atta, who, in turn, gave some of the money to Ekow Ewusi”.

Prof Frimpong-Boateng, who is also the Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), further revealed that “Seth Mantey’s statement and a statement from the National Investment Bank, are attached to this letter”, and asked, “I wish to appeal to the police authorities to investigate the matter”.

Frimpong Boateng has so far remained silent on the galamsey activities involving his own son.
