The failure of successive governments to complete a drainage system at Abossey-Okai has resulted in residents having to bear the wrath of heavy rainfalls.
Sunday evening’s rainfall caused unprecedented flooding in the community, posing threat to lives and properties of residents as the flood found its way into their rooms.
Residents, in separate interviews with GhanaWeb, blamed the flooding on the incompleteness of the gutter that was started by the Member of Parliament in the Area, Ebenezer Nii Narh Nartey.
“They started this immediately after they won power but have left it in this state because we are nowhere near the election. So we are calling on the government to help us by completing the gutter in other to prevent lives and properties,” one resident stated.
Another affected resident stated that “the rain even took away one life and left several properties to go waste. We are calling on the government to help come to our aid or else we won’t vote 2020”.
The residents are worried that the situation will worsen as the rainy season is not ending anytime soon.
Meanwhile, several families living close to the uncompleted gutter have relocated to other communities for shelter and safety.
The family house of the Member of Parliament for the area, Ebenezer Nii Narh Nartey was not spared from the floods. Occupants of the house had to wash all their clothes Monday morning while drying furniture and electrical gadgets they hoped to had not been destroyed by the water.
