Former Central Regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan has questioned the practicality of the decision by the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, to let nightclubs operate 24 hours a day when he becomes president.

Mr. Mahama has stated on official record that should Ghanaians make him president again, nightclubs in Ghana would operate for 24-hours, seven days of every week, as a part of his ‘24-Hour Economy Policy’.

The former President made the promise during the official campaign launch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) manifesto held at Winneba over the weekend.

“Hospitality industry; our restaurants, our discotheques, our nightclubs, our hotels, 24/7, 24 hours a day” were the exact words the former President used in explaining the ‘24-Hour Economy Policy’ promised by the NDC would be implemented in the hospitality sector.

The announcement has ignited commentaries on social media, with some netizens mocking the campaign promise, while others are jaw-dropped.

Commenting on the announcement in a discussion on Peace FM on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, monitored by GhanaWeb, Kwamena Duncan, who was left in disbelief, wondered how the nightclubs will operate 24 hours a day.

"The Flagbearer of the NDC has announced that businesses to run 24 hours under his proposed 24 hour economy policy will include nightclubs. Listen to the name, nightclubs. Why will you run a nightclub 24 hours a day? I've heard that operators of nightclubs are asking John Mahama how they'll operate for 24 hours. The NDC says the 24-hour economy policy will be run on three- to eight-hour shifts. So, does it mean we will have people going to the nightclub in the morning, afternoon, and evening," he asked?

Nightclubs, as the name suggests, are entertainment venues that are open from dusk until dawn and have facilities such as a bar and disco or other entertainment.
