New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Youth Organizer, Salam Mustapha, has criticized the party's sitting Members of Parliament who, due to internal conflicts, have decided to contest the December 7 parliamentary election as independent candidates.

Three MPs of the ruling party who have refused to heed the party's call not to cross carpet or go independent after losing their primaries have had their seats declared vacant by the Speaker, Alban Bagbin, in accordance with Article 97.

The MPs are Cynthia Morrison, the current NPP MP for Agona West constituency in the Central Region; Kwadwo Asante, the current NPP MP for the Suhum constituency in the Eastern Region; and Andrew Asiamah Amoako, currently an independent MP for the Fomena constituency in the Ashanti Region, now a candidate for the ruling New Patriotic Party.

Speaking to Nana Yaw Kesseh on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" show, Salam Mustapha pleaded with the aggrieved MPs to rescind their decision and return to the party.

"They should rethink their positions. They should rethink it. NPP doesn't deserve this... If your actions are going to impair the growth and progress of the party, think about it again because it is the party driving all of us... They should rescind their decisions. It's not too late to do so."

He revealed that the NPP leadership has done everything to resolve the conflict, but the aspirants are purely adamant instead of seeking the interest of the party.

"We hold elections every four years, so when we go for the elections, don't take it too hard. How can we develop the party if we all take it personally?" he questioned.

He advised the MPs to note that "when you lose an election, admit that you have lost an election. Come back, restrategize, and go again; that is good sportsmanship."
