The Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, has criticized the government's share of profits from the country's mining industry.

According to him, the percentage of proceeds that the government benefits from is woefully inadequate.

Speaking in a recent interview shared on social media, Dormaahene revealed that the government of Ghana receives only 7% of the profits from mining activities, a percentage he believes is unfair and inequitable.

He pointed out that even under military rule, a more balanced distribution was enforced.

"In Ghana, the gold that is mined, if the profits come, do you know the percentage that is given to Akufo-Addo? I have been saying this over and over again.

“Even under military rule, when General Kutu Acheampong was in charge, he didn't agree; he said it should be 50-50,” he said.

The Dormaahene expressed worry that in today's more civilized era, the government would settle for such a minimal share.

“He insisted that they should take half and give half to Ghanaians. Now, when they mine, now that we are civilized, they take 93% and give us 7%.

“So, the mining that is destroying our rivers in Obuasi, Tarkwa, and other towns means we are just getting peanuts, and the larger portion is going abroad,” he added.
