Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), has called on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to prove their involvement in the Flower Pot Interchange project before 2017.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, November 12, Ofosu Nkansah questioned the NDC's claims that the John Dramani Mahama administration initiated the interchange. He asked for specific details of any work the NDC undertook on the project before leaving office.
This debate has arisen as President Akufo-Addo prepares to commission the newly completed Flower Pot Interchange on November 19, 2024. Eugene Arhin, the Director of Communications at the Presidency, confirmed that the interchange is part of a larger motorway improvement project to ease congestion and provide a more efficient North-South route across Accra.
Ofosu Nkansah's challenge comes in response to NDC communicators asserting that the project began under Mahama's administration. He insists that if the NDC did start work on the interchange, they should provide evidence of their contributions.
Highlighting his commitment to transparency, Ofosu Nkansah emphasized the importance of clarifying the project's origins, especially as it becomes a significant infrastructure milestone in Ghana's capital.
"NDC should show us the work they had done on the Flower Pot Interchange when we took over in 2017," he stated.
"Former President Mahama wanted to construct a bridge, but President Akufo-Addo made it an interchange in 2017 and used GoG funds to start it before completing it with this Exim Facility. How's an intention to construct a bridge the same as the construction of an interchange?" he questioned.
