Police officers are trained to be disciplined professionals, but the Daily Graphic newspaper in 1968 reported an incident involving two police officers showing how indisciplined some of them can be.

The newspaper reported on a fight between two uniformed police officers - an Escort and a General - attached to the Ghana Railway Police Station at the station's charge office over a stick of cigarette.

According to the newspaper, they fought for nearly 45 minutes until one of them started bleeding profusely from the nose when other policemen standing by intervened to stop the fight.

A reliable source told the newspaper that the fight ensued after one of the police officers asked the colleague for a stick of cigarette, but the other refused the request.

This led to a quarrel, which eventually resulted in an open fight at the charge office.

The newspaper captured the story as follows:

“Two policemen in uniform - an Escort and a General - attached to the Ghana Railway Police Station in Accra, fought openly on Wednesday night at the station’s charge office over a stick of cigarette.”
