Human resource development, key to development

Agona Swedru, April 10, GNA - Mr Isaac Edumadze, Central Regional Minister has stated that human resource development is the key to move the economy into that of a middle-income nation in the next decade. He said that under the prevailing economic circumstances, the government alone could not fund education and other sectors of the economy and called on the private sector for assistance.

In speech read on his behalf at the Speech and prize giving day of the Swedru International School, Mr Edumadze said it was for this reason that the government appreciated the complementary role private educational institutions were playing in the country.

The Regional Minister noted that the country was at an era that needed the requisite skills.

He stated that Information Communication Technology had become the bedrock of scientific innovations and said that the study of computer science and other science related subjects in first cycle schools had to be encouraged.

The Regional Minister urged the students to avoid indiscipline such as drug abuse, pre-marital sex and alcoholism to enable them to become good citizens.

Mr G Y Yanney Bondzie, Head Master suggested to the government to consider private schools that could afford to pay the salaries of trained teachers and University graduates to employ them. He said it was unfortunate that the number of teacher training colleges had been reduced over the years and appealed to the government to open more.

Mr Bondzie announced that the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) had built a library, reception, computer centre, clinic and assembly hall to enhance teaching and learning.

Miss Emelia Otoo a student of the School who won the President's Award was honoured while other deserving students were also presented with prizes.
