Hundreds of residents of Sogakope and its environs yesterday, March 7, 2020 held a candlelight vigil for the late Mawutor Adzahli, the Sogakope south assemblyman who was gruesomely murdered a week ago.
The mourning residents who were all clad in black attire roamed the street amid tears and singing of dirges. "Borborbor", a music genre of the people of the Volta Region and Ewe communities in Togo and Benin was also played.
Sympathizers walked from Y junction in Sogakope through major streets within the Sogakope Township, submit prayers at the late Assemblyman's business centre, McGreen Ventures and finally end the procession at his residence where the heinous crime was perpetrated.
Notable among the participants of the night vigil were Chiefs and some religious leaders who deemed it right to be part of the activities as a way of expressing their grief.
In the wee hours of today, March 8, 2020, a number residents, mainly women, all clad in red attire from Sokpoe, a nearby town of Sogakope also stormed the business center of the late Assemblyman to express their sadness at the his demise.
Personnel from the Formed Police Unit (FPU) of the Ghana Police Service were also seen on ground in order to provide security and also maintain social order.
Meanwhile, former president John Dramani Mahama was in the early hours of yesterday, March 8, 2020 visited the bereaved family to offer his condolences and also donated an amount of GHS 2000 which is to be used to receive visitors who will be trooping to the house to mourn with the family.
