A hunter in the Birem North District of the Eastern Region has reportedly shot his colleague hunter to death and now faces legal ramifications after he was arrested by the local police.

According to a report by Ghanaian online news publication, MyNewsGH.com, residents of the area stated that the two hunters had entered the forest as usual to hunt down game.

However, Odikro Kofi David, a resident of the area stated that when Nana Kwesi returned without his colleague, Acheampong Daniel, the family of the deceased got anxious.

The family reported asked Nana Kwesi about Acheampong's whereabouts, but the suspect revealed that they had parted ways upon entering the forest. "A search party was constituted the next day when he failed to return home to look for the deceased but there was no trace of him", Odikro said.

The report continued that, on the third day, the family lodged a report with the local police who swiftly arrested Nana Kwesi. Upon his arrest, the hunter confessed to having killed his colleague after mistaking him for grasscutter.

Nana Kwesi subsequently led the police to the deceased and decaying of his Acheampong, who's lifeless body has since been deposited at a local morgue.

The suspect has been arraigned before the Birem North Magistrate Court and provisionally charged for murder and remanded in police custody to reappear on August 26, 2017.
