Victor Smith, former Special Aide to the founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Jerry John Rawlings, took the hot seat on 21 Minutes with KKB this weekend and has oozed out revelations upon revelations about happenings within the hierarchy of the NDC which ordinarily party grassroots are not privy to.
Unsurprisingly, the issue of his former Boss Rawlings dominated the 21 minute-long interview monitored by MYNEWSGH.com.
Mr Victor Smith has revealed that former President John Mahama considered the advice of the founder of his party as very critical for which he tried to keep the former President closer and sought his counsel frequently.
Mr Smith said Rawlings is untruthful if he says President Mahama didn’t value or sought his counsel as someone who has been Head of State for a combined period of 19 years.
Mr Victor Smith who was appointed Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom narrated that he knows as a fact, that Mr Rawlings used to visit the private residence of then President Mahama to “enjoy coffee” with the president.
He vehemently disputed that then President Mahama didn’t consult Mr Rawlings on a number of things he did.
“He [Rawlings] used to visit President Mahama to have coffee. I know that for a fact. When he arrives at President Mahama’s residence in the morning, he is given preferential treatment because of who he [is] you know…”, Mr Smith said.
He called on members of the opposition NDC to continue to ask “why” the former President behaves the way he does.
“So we don’t understand why he is doing this to us… that’s the why the NDC people should be asking him: why, why, why?” He declared.
He usually raises issues about Prof Mills failing to prosecute the govt that came before him the Kufuor administration for so many things that they did wrong in his estimation and that Atta Mills didn’t convince enough about why he wasn’t persecuting the people or prosecuting them, so he didn’t agree agree with them.
Background
Flt Lt. Rawlings on April 9th 2008 sent a text message to Mr Smith, then his official Spokesperson, directing him to write a letter to fire himself and copy the media. The two men have since not been on good terms with Victor Smith tasking himself probono with the duty to be at hand all all times to publicly rebuke the founder of the NDC when his comments hurt the party.
Only last two weeks, Mr Smith recommended the sacking of the founder of the party or that he be called to order since his comments continued to make the largest opposition party a subject of ridicule.
