Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the 2012 flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has refuted rumours being circulated around by propagandists of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) that he has collapsed on a campaign platform.
“I have just been told that NDC propagandists are at it again on FM stations in Accra. This time, the story is that I collapsed on a platform whilst touring the Kumawu constituency. I toured Kumawu some two weeks ago on October 1, and it is strange that this matter should come up now on the eve of my speech,” Nana Addo told Sunyani Nurses Training College on Wednesday night during his meeting with health professional bodies and institutions in the regional capital as part of his tour of the Brong Ahafo region.
The NPP presidential candidate has therefore described the allegation as a total fabrication, saying, “I did not collapse; I have never felt stronger; and I am very fit to deliver a speech on health.”
Many untenable allegations have been peddled on Nana Addo by the propagandists of the ruling party, but all have failed to wash.
Given the chance to address the students in the college unlike what happened at the Koforidua Nurses Training College where he has prevented by the Principal from addressing the students, Nana Akufo-Addo thanked the authorities of the college for the opportunity to talk about what he said was “a subject of utmost concern to all of us: good health, our individual health and the health of the nation.”
He added, “And to talk about this subject, I don’t think we could have a better place or audience that a Nurses Training College and an audience mostly of student nurses. When it comes to healthcare, you are at the frontline and the policies that government adopts affect you directly and you are in a position to tell what works and what doesn’t.”
Present at the meeting were leading members of the NPP, including renowned heart surgeon Prof. Frimpong Boateng, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, Kwadwo Adjei-Darko, former minister of local government and rural development, Kwaku Asomah Cheremeh, Brong Ahafo regional chairman of the NPP and the MP for Sunyani east, Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh.
