I Have Every Confidence in NPP Delegates: Akufo-Addo

11th July, 2010:- The 2008 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and lead contender in the upcoming August 7 primaries of the party, Nana Akufo-Addo has reiterated his confidence in the delegates of the party.

“I have every confidence in the delegates of our party and I know that on August 7, they will make the right decision. They have never gotten it wrong and I know that one more time, come August 7, they will make a decision that is in the best interest of our party and our nation” he declared.

He was speaking at the Nkwanta Social Center where he and his Victory 2012 Campaign Team met with delegates of the Nkwanta South constituency to sell his message of hope to them.

He remarked that “expanding the electoral college of our party is something that has been on my mind for quite some time. Today, I am glad that this event has come to pass in our party because I am convinced that those who do the leg work of the party, i.e. the polling station executives, must be given the opportunity to vote for whoever becomes the party’s candidate.”

He noted that “it is also important to strengthen the polling station executives so that they can have the capacity to do the work and therefore I promise you that if you vote for me and make me flag bearer again, I will bring the resources and logistics directly to you to do your work, because I believe that if you are strong, then our party is strong.”

He reminded the delegates that “as we all know, the NDC are people who have never been able to walk a straight line and therefore if we are in a contest with such people, then it is important to strengthen the grass roots of our party, because you are the ones who can keep the NDC in check and ensure that our victory is not stolen from us in 2012.”

He stressed that “the decision that the delegates of the party will be making on August 7 is not one limited to the NPP. It is a matter that concerns the future of our country, the future of our children and grandchildren and we cannot fail them.”

He mentioned that “the Ghanaian people are looking up to us in the NPP recapture power in 2012 and provide a strong, positive alternative to the failing government of the NDC and we cannot fail them.”

“Every single promise that candidate Mills made to Ghanaians during the campaign of 2008, President Mills has failed to live up to them. He promised to reduce the prices of goods and services but on the contrary, every single commodity has gone up in price”, he noted.

He asked whether the better Ghana that Candidate Mills promised has reached the people of Nkwanta and when they shouted a very loud no in response, he said “everywhere I have been to in our country; this better Ghana is not being felt by the people. So where at all is this so-called better Ghana,” he asked.

He took a swipe at the NDC for trying to collapse all the social interventions that were introduced by the Kufuor led NPP administration to cushion the poor, “and yet still they claim to be a pro-poor party” he observed.

“I want to send a strong message to the NDC that when we come back in 2012, we are going to reenergise the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), the School Feeding Programme, the National Youth Employment Programme and all the other ones that we brought so that they can be of immense benefit of the larger majority of the Ghanaian people” he stated.

He tasked delegates to “listen carefully to the Ghanaian people and elect the one name that is on the lips of everybody in our country today so that our work in 2012 will be much easier.”
