I Shall Return - Wayo Seini

..the downfall of a man, is never the end of his life -Wayo

Supporters of the National Democratic Congress(NDC)in Tamale, are revelling in the victory of their party in Tuesday?s by-election, in the Tamale Central Constituency. Some of them have worn the ?T?, shirts of Prof Wayo Seini, especially in the strongholds of NDC, and are boldly displaying them, just to taunt supporters of Prof Wayo Seini.

While many of them have described the victory as a ?sweet one?, which has given them great satisfaction, the leadership of the party says, the wide margin of victory, between their candidate, Lawyer Inusah Fuseini, and his closest rival, Prof Wayo, who was supported by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), is an indication that, the Government is becoming hugely unpopular.

The party said from Odododiodoo to Asawase to Tamale, the ruling party lost by huge margins, in the three by-elections, conducted so far, proving that the masses are greatly disappointed in the Government.

Supporters of Prof Wayo Seini, who are mostly followers of NPP, are also, quiet, and wondering whether it was prudent for their party not to have fielded an official candidate, in the by-election.

Prof Wayo Seini, told Daily Guide, it was not all that surprising that, he lost the seat, because he stood as an independent candidate, and therefore, did not have adequate resources to carry out an effective campaign.

He said, standing as an independent candidate in Tamale, is a different ball-game altogether, and that his garnered votes of 11,579 as against the winner?s 29,081, could be described as respectable, for an independent candidate.

?I would definitely bounce back in 2008, and this time around, I hope to stand on the ticket of NPP, to enable me to win the seat?, he said, explaining that, the downfall of a man, is never the end of his life.

According to Prof Wayo Seini, the NDC candidate had all the advantages, that is why he won, so easily.

?He had all the support from the party?s founder, Flt Lt Rawlings, through the party?s chairman, and all the hierarchy of the party and also, adequate party, resources while on my part I was dwelling on little resources?, he said, adding that, NPP declared its support for him, too late, and that did not register enough impact in his campaign.

The NDC candidate, Inusah Fuseini, on his part, has expressed his gratitude to Tamale constituents for the massive support given him, and said he would never turn his back on them. He appealed to them to remain solidly behind NDC, in these trying times, and that, the chances of the party coming back to power, in 2008, are very bright.

The national organiser of NPP, Mr Lord Commey who observed the by-election, rubbished NDC?s bragging that NPP ran away from the Tamale by-election, because of the fear of a third humiliating defeat, in a by-election. According to Lord Commey, the party pulled out because of strategic reasons and also, to help preserve peace in Tamale and Dagbon, as a whole. He said, the party is greatly satisfied with the result, since for the first time, Tamale has organised elections, without any major security problems.
?We are satisfied with ourselves, and the people of Tamale are the winners, for their maturity in supporting our peace moves?, he said, stressing that, that maturity should be sustained, to maintain peace in Tamale. He maintained that, NPP?s non-participation in the Tamale by-election, does not mean it was afraid of NDC, but it withdrew for the sake of peace, in Tamale.
