The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the North Tongu District of the Volta Region, Osborne Fenu, has said he is happy to see the people of the Volta Region, especially the youth, join the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to him, it was difficult for the NPP supporters to publicly declare their support for the party, and he is happy that the narrative has changed in recent times.

"I feel happy because back in 1998, it was very difficult to come out, and even in my own town, Vume, it was very difficult to come out. I've seen people being beaten across polling stations, but things have changed now," he said.

He was speaking at Battor on Monday, September 9, 2024, after accompanying the NPP parliamentary candidate in the area, Dr. John Savior Eleblu, to file his nomination.

He claimed that voltarians are joining the party because of the various developmental projects that the region has benefited from under the regime of former president John Agyekum Kufuor and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

"NPP has brought a lot of development to the region, in this area (North Tongu) for the first time. Former President Kufuor brought pipe-born water to this area, and under President Nana Addo's regime, we've fixed the Battor market; we've seen for the first time two major courts in this district," he said.

The DCE also said the free SHS policy, planting for foods and jobs program, one district, one factory, and warehouses, and the recent DRIP machines, motivated people in the region to join the party.

He then called on families, groups, and young people in the region to embrace the NPP, specifically in his district.

The DCE urged his constituents to vote for John Eleblu in the December 7 polls.

Per the election history of the Volta Region, the NPP votes have increased in each general election since 2012.
