I am not a card-bearing member of NDC - Alhaji Harruna Atta

A former Managing Editor of the Accra Daily Mail, Alhaji Harruna Atta has denied being a card-bearing member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to him, former president John Dramani Mahama who is his younger brother knew he could deliver as a career diplomat and that is why he appointed him as Ghana’s envoy to Namibia and Botswana.

Speaking on UTV last Friday May 12, 2017, he said the work of an Ambassador is a herculean task and within every working day, one is always busy resolving issues as the president’s representative in the country assigned.

“I am not an NDC. The former President believed I could do the job and that is why he appointed me. It is easy being a career diplomat because the country you will be assigned to sometimes make their requirements strict”, he revealed.

According to him, he is currently enjoying his retirement but stated that he has reached a state in life where the interest of the country must be supreme and not political parties.

“Let us stop this NDC, NPP tagging and focus on the interest of the country which is paramount. I think politicizing of issues bedeviling the country is not the solutions to the problems”, he added.

Harruna Attah, who used to be a staunch New Patriotic Party (NPP) leading personality, did not deny his relationship with the current ruling party stating recounting how he played key roles in their campaigns in 1996 and even worked for the late former Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama when he wanted to be flagbearer of the party in 2007.

“In the run up to the 2008 elections, people were fed up with the regime of Rawlings so everyone wanted them out and played various roles”, he stated.

He however fell short to respond to a question as to whether he was still a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) or otherwise when the interviewer probed further.
