Minister of Foreign Affairs-designate, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has dismissed rumors that he deleted social media posts prior to his vetting by the Appointments Committee.

Ablakwa denied the allegations, stating that he's not a coward who disowns his words.

He described the rumors as fake news aimed at damaging his reputation.

During his vetting on Friday, January 31, 2025, Ablakwa described himself as a "conviction politician," emphasising his commitment to standing by his principles and statements.

“Can you believe that on my way to the vetting, just a few days before, fake news started circulating that I had begun deleting my Facebook messages?

My Facebook posts were all over, and some people believed it, thinking I was indeed deleting my posts. Why would I? I'm not a coward. I’m not one to backtrack. I stand by my convictions. I'm a conviction politician.”

He emphasised that fake news is a pressing global issue that needs to be addressed.

In his view, social media is here to stay, and as a result, there should be a push for more open governance and transparency.

“Fake news is a real problem. But I think social media is here to stay. Let's encourage more open governance, more transparency, and we should be fine with social media. If it is misused, it can be weaponized and used as a destructive element. I believe African leaders should become more conscious of the new age media, and we should encourage greater transparency,” he said.

The MP for North Tongu added,“My view is that if African leaders and governments adopt an open governance framework, becoming more transparent and accountable, the people will be informed. Knowledge is power, and it will be harder to mislead the people.”
