Chief Executive Officer of the Edemfairre Foundation, Edem Fairre revealed that she tried to take her life on two occasions due to how depressed she was but failed.

The model and TV presenter in an interview with GhanaWeb.com indicated that her victorious fight with the 'sickness' bore out the foundation which aims to educate people on how to identify depression and seek professional help.

She said: “I was depressed and sometimes I go through it once a while but it got to point I attempted suicide twice and I failed miserably in killing myself.”

Ms Fairre added that the stigma surrounding depression worsens the situation of its victims and called on people to refrain from such act.

According to the CEO, she overcame depression with the help of family and friends.

“Within two years of going through what I went through, I didn’t even know I was depressed, it was my friends, family around me that were trying to get me back on my feet. And until I started reading through and I got to realize that it was actually depression that I was going through..." she said.

Adding: "Through my research, I found out that people are unable to come and say I am depressed and even if it comes out, there is always this stigma around it that you have a mental problem.

I won’t say I have fully recovered but now I am able to pinpoint when I am getting there.”

She therefore encouraged Ghanaians struggling with depression and anxiety that they are not alone in this fight.
