Former President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi, has revealed that he initially supported Wilfred Osei Kweku Palmer, the owner of Tema Youth FC, to succeed him as GFA president.

Nyantakyi explained that Palmer was his preferred choice due to their existing relationship. However, his support shifted when Kurt Okraku approached him to back his GFA presidential bid, which Nyantakyi accepted.

In an interview with Kumasi-based Lawson FM, Nyantakyi emphasised his role in helping Kurt Okraku secure the presidency.

"A day before the elections, Kurt Okraku called me to help him win the election, so I called the delegates to come to my house for a meeting. Out of the 123 delegates, about 60 of them came to my house at night. I spoke to them, and they agreed to vote for Kurt Okraku.

Nyantakyi clarified that he did not receive any money from Okraku or anyone else leading up to the election.

"Kurt Okraku did not give me any money, and even days before the elections, nobody approached me. But before that, I was rooting for Osei Palmer to become the president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA). I was sad when he was disqualified by the Elections Committee," he pointed out.

He expressed disappointment that Osei Palmer was disqualified by the Elections Committee, as he had initially supported him for the position.

The Kurt Okraku-led GFA administration has been in office for five years since taking over in 2019. They have faced criticism, particularly for the poor performance of national teams like the Black Stars.
