Founder and Leader of the United Renaissance Party, Kofi Wayo is accusing the NPP government of not attaching the needed seriousness to stop illegal mining in the country, claiming that he could have stopped it within 24 hours if he was the president.
Mr Wayo, who eyed the presidential seat some time ago said the three-week ultimatum given to the illegal miners by the Lands and Natural Resource Minister, Mr Peter Amewu to stop the act is an indication of the government’s failure to solve the galamsey menace.
Mr Peter Amewu has given a three week ultimatum to illegal miners to stop their act of face sanctions and destruction of their machinery.
He said that any government committed to stop the galamsey menace should be able to do it in less than 24 hours by enforcing the laws and making them work properly.
Mr Kofi Wayo said, “If I was the president, I would only need 24 hours or less to kick out illegal miners and end galamsey”. I have the knowledge, I have the know-how and I have the capabilities and will do so because I love my people and will do what is right for them, he further stated.
According to him, the issue of galamsey has been in existence for a very long time and Ghanaians are only joking with none of the successive governments tackling it, including the current NPP government headed by Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo. Just as the Fulani menace, the “Big Men” are the ones behind the galamsey, he added.
Intelligence is not at play in the country, everyone is focusing on sensationalism and that is affecting us now because of our ‘African Mind’, he said.
He advised that the fight should not only be focused on the Chinese expatriates but everyone.
The former presidential aspirant said the Nana Addo led government cannot solve the galamsey problems the country faces currently if not so he wouldn’t have given a whole three weeks ultimatum to the people behind it, given that there could be loss of more lives during the term of the ultimatum.
