Outgoing deputy Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress Fred Agbenyo who lost his position Sunday in a bid to climb up on the party’s executive ladder says he did everything possible to win but failed in the bid.
The man, who was seeking to become the party’s communications director, was defeated heavily by a new chap, Sammy Gyamfi who recently shot into the limelight with his communication dexterity.
Sammy Gyamfi polled 6,225 of the over 9,000 votes cast while his only contender for the post, Fred Agbenyo managed a paltry 2,069, leaving almost 4,000 vote difference.
of the official declaration of the results by the Electoral Commission at the Ghana International Trade Fair Centre in Accra, Mr. Agbenyo accepted defeat and told Joy News his defeat “didn’t really come as a surprise” to him.
“…I did everything that I could humanly possible to win the elections,” he said, but added the delegates decided to give Sammy Gyamfi the nod.
Asked whether he knew Sammy Gyamfi was going to be tough candidate to beat prior to the elections, he responded in the negative, saying not “necessarily”.
He claimed Sammy’s victory was as a result of what he termed “several factors” which were at play but declined to mention.
Notwithstanding he thanked all the party delegates, especially the people of Volta Region and anyone who played a role in the success of the congress.
He has meanwhile said despite the outcome of the results, he would continue to work in the interest of the party.
