I didn’t order Zoomlion office closure – MCE

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the West Mamprusi District, Mohammed Abu has denied instructing the closure of the offices of Zoomlion Ghana Limited in his jurisdiction.

Some Frustrated members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) seeking jobs in Walewale within the authority of Mr. Abu Wednesday morning shut down the Zoomlion offices in the municipality.

According to the Manager of the local Zoomlion office, Abdulai Mashud, the men told him they had secured a letter from the MCE endorsing their action and that they were removing him for being a member of the NDC.

About nine muscled men intruded with padlocks and locked the faciility after accusing the district manager of being a staunch member of the opposition National Democratic Party (NDC).

“They came Wednesday morning and told me to get out, that they are here lock the place. They said my time is up because my party (NDC) is no more in power. They showed me a recommendation letter and claim it is coming from the MCE.

“So they drove me out and locked the place with three padlocks. I also added my own padlock to prevent them from taking anything from the office later,” Mr. Mashud told a local reporter.

The men also drove out staff of the agency and told them not to return because they were going to be replaced by members of the NPP.

Commenting on the development on Starr Today, Mr. Abu dissociated himself from the actions of the youth. He also denied ever asking them to embark on what he described as a “reckless” action.

“How could I have asked them to go and attack someone? It’s the reason I have reported the case to the police. We would follow the issue till justice is served,” he told Starr Today’s Naa Dedei Tetteh.
