I disagree with Auditor-General on salary arrears of ex-MPs – Majority Leader

Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu

Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has expressed disagreement with the position taken by the Auditor-General, Daniel Yaw Domelevo, on the demands of payment salary arrears by some former members of Parliament (MPs).

The request was made in a letter written by the Chief of Staff in order to have the former MPs and some serving ones, numbering over 200, paid their arrears.

But Mr Domelevo described the request by Akosua Frema Osei-Opare as invalid and amounting to conflict of interest as most of the beneficiaries are members of the current government, including Madam Osei-Opare herself and the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

He said even the period of arrears pre-dates the Chinery Hesse Committee, which had not been enforced.

But the Majority Leader on Thursday, June 18 told the parliamentary press corps that the Auditor-General’s position was without basis as “Parliament does not approve of the aspect of the gratuity relating to Parliamentarians” contrary to the position of Mr Domelevo.
